W. D. DELI
W. D. Deli is a cafe and catering business in San Antonio, Texas, specializing in soups, salads, and sandwiches. Since 1990, our goal has been to provide our customers with delicious, fresh food in healthy portions at reasonable prices. We take a lot of pride in the fact that we have scores of regular customers who have been enjoying lunch at the deli pretty much since we opened the doors. Come by sometime soon. W. D. History
Born in New York, and and then transplanted to Tulsa, Wayne Douglas Beers has had a life-long love affair with food and entertaining. If you ask Wayne if he learned to cook from his mom, he is likely to tell you that his mother never made anything for dinner but reservations. The truth is that Marie is a great cook, the kind that cooks her sauce all day long. But I digress. Wayne found out in the late 1980s that dental school was not what he considered his calling, and started working in earnest toward becoming the restauranteur he is today. Wayne spent some time working as a waiter on the riverwalk, as well as some time at Cappy's on Loop 410 (both in San Antonio). Soon, Wayne began doing some freelance catering and researching the feasability of opening W. D. Deli. Wayne opened W. D. Deli on McCullough Avenue in Olmos Park, Texas in April of 1990.

Working behind the scenes for a while, Michael Bobo came into W. D. Deli fulltime in the fall of 2001. Strategic timing, as Bobo was finishing up a masters degree at Trinity University and W. D. Deli was a booming business and preparing for the renovation of the Broadway location and opening as a new and bigger ("new and improved!") deli on a busy thoroughfare. From his background in retail management and teaching high school in San Antonio, Michael has brought a different perspective to the table.

These two guys and their great staff enjoy meeting and greeting regular customers and winning over the newbies that come to W. D. Deli. Ask any of them what they recommend from the menu. You'll get lots of different suggestions - all of them great!

Today and Tomorrow at W. D. Deli
W. D. Deli is constantly working to provide great food and service in a comfortable setting. In February of 2002, the W. D. Deli crew opened in a new home, well, really an old home, at 3123 Broadway in San Antonio. The current W. D. is in an old two-story home that was built in the 1920s. The space has been not just a home, but also a steak house, a supper club, a bar, a dance studio, and a brass bed store. But since 2002, it's been the headquarters of the soup and sandwich set, especially those who are looking for the most excellent tortilla soup, or the greatest spinach chicken salad.
